Motorcycle   Group

On Sunday July 21st five of the group met at the Tickled Trout Services, Preston, at 10.00a.m. and set off up the M6 calling at Lancaster Services to pick up Alan Davies, but he had  experienced a bit of trouble with his bike and joined us at our destination the Lakeland Motor Museum. It was then back on to the M6 leaving it at Junction 35 and heading up the A6 through Milnthorpe, and then on to the A590 and just after Newby Bridge turning right into the Museum car park.

On arrival we met up with Alan Davies and  Brian Mason   who had both made their own way. We entered the museum, the main hall being filled with a mixture of cars and motorcycles of various vintages, comments such as “ I used to have one of them,” “I remember working on them,” “My Dad used to have one of them,” could be heard. The upstairs gallery is mostly devoted to motorcycles, cycles etc. and various observations were made by those of the group. Following our extensive tour of the exhibits, it was time for a brew, and we went into the café, and enjoyed various freshly made dishes which included a full English breakfasts, burgers, various pieces of gateau, cream scones etc.

We then walked it off by going up to the “Bluebird” exhibition, this houses the land speed  Bluebird and a prototype of the water speed Bluebird as well as one of the engines, together with film footage, photographs and write ups of the various record-breaking attempts of Sir Donald Campbell.

Due to time restraints three of us made our way back home, two went further into the Lakes and one made his own way back. A good run enjoyed by all.
